The Visa Application Process

Each destination begins with the first step. Each destination reaches a few pit stops along the way. Each pit stop or checkpoint will enable the driver to reach the next level.Your Visa application is required to follow each check point in order to reach the next level. It may be a timely process but it is necessary. The best way to understand why the wait is needed is to understand the process. How is your visa application processed? Let’s did a little deeper.

The Following is a general outline of the visa application process.

You’ve Lodged Your Application

Don’t expect a response very soon. There’s a huge volume of cases the Processing centre has to process. The centre handles all skilled visa applications from applicants across the world. It’s estimated that the centre receives at least 1000 application each week. So, you can well imagine what the load must be like! You can however, expect to receive an acknowledgement letter confirming that your application ahs been received. The letter should contain your file reference number. The Letter may also contain additional information about the centres processing timeframes and the dates of applications they are handling at the time.

You may receive your acknowledgement letter within four to six weeks.

Note: Whether your occupation is on the Migration Occupation in Demand List (MODL), your application may be set as priority. Processing times for priority applications currently is 6 months.

Non-priority ones are taking between six and nine months.

You’ve Received the Acknowledgement Letter...

Be prepared to wait for around for approximately four months or more before the case officer reviews your application. Only then will you be contacted. You will be contacted via email or letter. You’ll be requested to undertake a

health and character test. You are also required to provide information is asked for. You will be given a deadline in which to do the tests and provide the information that you are asked for. However, if for some reason you aren’t able to provide the information and do the tests by before the deadline, contact the centre explain your situation. The deadline is usually not set in stone.

What’s Worth Knowing?...

Take into consideration that the Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre (for example) does not accept receipt of mail. Take every bit of advice that your Immigration Consultant gives you into account. The Centre will not advice you how each stage is progressing. So, if there is not news, it may be good news.

You’ve Completed Your Tests...

Now that you’ve completed your medical or health and character tests, expect an answer in six weeks or so. If there are any concerns with your tests and you are a sponsored applicant, you may have to wait a bit longer.

You’re Visa Application Has Been Granted...

Congratulations, your application has been granted! You are now required to post your passports to have the visa labels placed on. No need to be concerned about time. You can set a week aside for the rest of the process to be finalised. When you receive your passport back, you will be free to travel for the next five years. You’re visa will be valid for five years. You’ll receive an initial date entry.

Note: The date you receive is based on the 12 month expiry date of your health and character checks. The date indicates the time by which you must immigrate to Australiaand activate your visa

The process may take a while but it is certainly well worth the wait!
